July 2026 DA Hike: Will Central Government Employees Get a 3% Increase After Dussehra?

DA Update | Current Dearness Allowance stands at 60%. A possible revision to 63% is being discussed, but employees and pensioners are still waiting for the government’s official decision.

Central government employees and pensioners are waiting for the next Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) announcement. After the Cabinet meeting on October 14 passed without a DA decision, attention has shifted to the next meeting, scheduled for October 21, just after Dussehra.

However, the government has not confirmed that the DA hike will be announced on that date. Employees should therefore treat the October 21 date as a possibility, not a guaranteed deadline.

What Is the Current DA Rate?

The Union Cabinet approved a 2-percentage-point increase in April 2026, raising DA for central government employees from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay, effective January 1, 2026. The corresponding Dearness Relief rate for eligible pensioners also rose to 60% of Basic Pension.

The next revision is due with effect from July 1, 2026, subject to the government’s approval.

Could DA Increase From 60% to 63%?

Based on the available inflation-index data, a rise to around 63% has been discussed in recent reports. Some coverage has also considered the possibility of a 4-percentage-point increase, which would take the rate to 64%.

These figures are scenarios, not confirmed government decisions. The final rate will be known only after the government announces the revision.

Why Is October 21 Being Discussed?

The government often announces DA and DR revisions around the festive season, and Cabinet meetings frequently take place on Wednesdays. This has led to speculation about the October 21 meeting.

Nevertheless, previous announcements have not followed one fixed schedule. The fact that a Cabinet meeting is scheduled does not establish that a DA decision will be taken.

How Much More Could Employees Receive?

The actual increase in monthly DA depends on Basic Pay and the percentage approved.

For illustration, if an employee’s Basic Pay is ₹30,000:

  • At 60% DA: ₹18,000 per month

  • At 63% DA: ₹18,900 per month

  • At 64% DA: ₹19,200 per month

A move to 63% would mean ₹900 more per month in DA, while a move to 64% would mean ₹1,200 more per month, compared with the current 60% rate. These examples exclude other salary components and deductions.

If the revision is approved with effect from July 1, 2026, eligible employees may also receive arrears for the applicable period. The payment arrangements will depend on the official order.

What Should Employees and Pensioners Watch For?

The key developments to watch are the Cabinet’s decision, the final approved percentage and the Department of Expenditure’s formal DA/DR order. Until these are issued, neither the percentage increase nor the announcement date should be treated as final.

Bottom line: A DA increase to 63% is one possibility being discussed, with 64% also appearing in estimates. But as of October 16, 2026, the July revision remains unannounced. Employees and pensioners should rely on the official government notification for confirmation.
